We are currently seeking an Oracle Database Developer to work on a large business application suite of applications at a cabinet-level agency. The role is a hands-on position working in an Agile (Kanban) environment. The project is in O&M, which will support a large data warehouse, BI applications, ASP.NET applications, and miscellaneous data requests. The management of the suite of applications is critical to the Agency’s mission each and every day of the year. The Oracle Database Developer plays an essential role in several work streams as they will interface with many IT systems.

This role will require both management and technical skills (see below) to be successful. Also, (past) experience as a federal contractor is critical. The position requires solid understanding of the agency-contractor relationship as this position involves interaction with numerous federal managers and other contracting companies. This position will also require interfacing with technical resources for multiple priority workstreams - the ideal candidate will have strong communication skills.  

What you will be doing

  • Coding data objects in an O&M setting
  • Working with ASP.NET and BI developers on code enhancements and bug fixes
  • Providing production release support
  • Working as a member of an Agile (Kanban) team and participating in team rituals (stand-ups, retrospectives, status meetings, etc.)
  • Maintaining contract SDLC documents
  • Ensuring adherence to quality standards and reviewing project deliverables
  • Adding, updating, and completing JIRA tickets to document your work activities (all work is tracked in Jira)
  • Working with the infrastructure contractor DBAs on maintaining the database(s)
  • On a rotational basis, doing team quality assurance (QA) activities on our data and dashboards
  • Providing general team/user support

What you need to be considered for this role (required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • 5+ years of recent hands-on experience working as an Oracle Database Developer
  • Extensive Oracle 19c RDBMS development experience using advanced PL/SQL, creating stored procedures, functions, views, etc.
  • Agile experience (Kanban or Scrum)
  • Prior experience working at a federal agency (or prior federal contracting experience)
  • Ability (and willingness) to assist in other technical endeavors when workloads are low
  • Experience with MS Office Suite products
  • Effective organizational, planning, and time management skills; ability to adapt and manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced challenging environment
  • Expert communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality accurate reports
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision under a system of discipline and accountability
  • Ability and willingness to learn other processes and technologies. Our team is versed in multiple technologies. If you are open to learning, you are a good fit.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity while dealing directly with internal and external customers
  • U.S. citizenship or a Green card Holder (and willingness to undergo a Public Trust background investigation)

What makes you stand out from the crowd (desired)

  • Master’s Degree or higher
  • Technical certifications (including SCM, Oracle, etc.)
  • ASP.NET experience
  • Past experience with Sybase RDBMS, MS SQL RDBMS, Serena Dimensions, GitLab (GitHub), or PowerBI
  • Prior experience with technical writing
  • SDLC experience of any type
  • Experience with testing web applications (i.e., Running test scripts)
  • Hands-on experience with developing BI applications like Power BI

Base Compensation: $100-130K, based on factors such as geographic location and experience 
Other Compensation: 4% contribution to 401(k), performance bonus, profit-sharing
